Classes Begin Tuesday, August 15, 2017

School begins Tuesday, August 15th.  Students may arrive as early as 6:30 a.m. to await the opening of the gates under the supervision of Byrd staff.  There is supervision in front of the school at 6:30 a.m. each day and our gates open at 7:00 a.m. each day.

The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. each morning and students are allowed to go into the classroom areas in preparation for entering their classes.  This is the time to visit lockers and make your way to your homeroom.  The tardy bell rings at 7:46 a.m.  Teachers open classrooms any time between 7:30 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. Students not in class by 7:45 a.m. are subject to being marked tardy and the consequences that follow.

New students are not to worry.  The first days will be a brand new experience and we know that.  Teachers receiving students new to Byrd MS are well aware of the confusion and anxiety associated with starting in a new school, so you may expect that you will not be marked tardy initially.  We all know how it is moving from a small elementary to the big middle school.  DON'T WORRY!!!...ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!

We will have student leaders and staff members out and about to assist with lockers, locating homerooms and any questions you may have.  We want your initial experience at Byrd MS to be awesome and to set the tone for the days and years to come.  Anyone and everyone will help.  And....if you don't know what to do, go into any office and you will be assisted.  You our my word on it.

School ends at 1:06 p.m. on Tuesdays, including the first day of school.  Students may await their parents in front of the school for 30 minutes.  After the first 30 minutes, students who have not been picked up are sent to the gym to await their pick up.  There is adult supervision in the gym and in the after school programs.

Students may also participate in one of the after school programs rather than sit and wait in the gym.  Our after school programs:  Youth Services (which focuses on sports) and KYDS (which includes homework help, arts/crafts, board games, rubix cube club, Cyber Patriot, Hip/Hop Dance, the MakerSpace classroom-including robotics and more...) are awesome and close at 6pm daily.

Information regarding the after school programs will be available during the orientations and also in the Main Office.

Happy New School Year!!!
